The only public course in the U.S. that Jack Nicklaus designed, these Bear/Elk/Beaver 9's at 9600 Ft. of Elevation will challenge you with elevated tee boxes, strategically-placed sand bunkers, spring-fed water hazards and spectacular snow-capped mountain views that will have you reaching for your digital camera.

Eagle Vail Golf Club: (Elev.: 6601), 18R, 4833-6836 Yds., Slope: 120-149, 1974, Architect: Devlin-VonHagge. This scenic layout takes you through a valley with the Eagle River running through the front nine, a historic red barn near Hole #2 from a previous farm from the 1930's and served as a feed & tack storage building, a testament to the valley's original agricultural heritage. On the back 9, you'll be warmed up to hit gravity-defying drives up and down the mountain side through lodgepole pines, douglas fir and aspen trees.
Gypsum Creek: (Elev.: 6312), 18R, 5197-7052 Yds., Slope: 117-140, 1997, Architect: Pete Dye. This course is spread out over a sage-covered mesa and will lull you into a false sense of confidence with its rolling fairways flanked by juniper bushes and pinon pines. Beware of the steep drop offs and sharp doglegs at which you have to make stellar shots to keep your score from going as stratospheric as your drives! This course is 35 min. west of Vail and due to its microclimate, Gypsum Creek has the longest golf season in the Vail Valley.
Keystone Ranch: (Elev.: 9173), 18R, 5582-7109 Yds., Slope: 115-139, 1980, Architect: Robert Trent Jones, Jr. This alpine layout is a classic mountain course with holes winding through lodgepole pines, sage green meadows and a nine acre lake. The front nine has a links style design while the back nine presents a traditional mountain valley course with slight elevation changes.
Mt. Massive Golf Course: (Elev.: 9860), 9R, 4958-6188 Yds. (Played 2x), Slope: 89-134, 1939, Designer: Adolf Kuss. This 9 hole layout is the highest golf course in Northn America. Mt. Massive, one of (54) 14,000 ft. peaks in Colorado, can be seen in the distance. Although it can be walked, we recommend taking a cart because you'll feel the effects of high altitude, on both your lungs...and your drives! Add this course to your 'bucket list' and enjoy the scenic drive from the Vail Valley.
Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks: (Elev.: 9035), 18R, 5235-7300 Yds., Slope: 107-150, 2000, Architect: Hurzdan-Fry & Tom Lehman. Touted as the #1 mountain course in Colorado, you will enjoy a quiet gallery of elk, osprey, moose and eagles. Trout-filled lakes and snow-capped peaks make for a serene setting amongst the lush pines and aspens.
Red Sky Golf Club: (Elev.: 6988), 36R, 5536-7364 Yds., Slope: 121-153, 2003, Architect: Greg Norman. 5184-6972 Yds., Slope: 108-144, 2002, Architect: Tom Fazio. Greg Norman and Tom Fazio have sculpted an alpine playground out of 800 acres of historic ranchlands filled with sage, aspen groves and spectacular mountain vistas.
River Course @ Keystone, The: (Elev.: 9173), 18R, 4686-6816 Yds., Slope: 105-140, 2000, Architect: Hurzdan-Fry. The front nine of this layout winds back-and-forth across the Snake River. Then, you enter a mountain wonderland of elevation changes, fragrant pines, water hazards and five sets of tees to test your game. Named in the Top 12 of Golf for Women's Top 50Best Courses for Women, this course will challenge you at all levels.
Sonnenalp Golf Club: (Elev.: 7221), 18R, 5174-7059 Yds., Slope: 125-150, 1980, Architect: Jay Morrish/Robert Cupp. This private club is located west of Vail in a microclimate so its golf season is extended. The front and back nines carry you to valleys, creeks and elevated tee boxes and the wildflowers and mountain provide a beautiful backdrop to this layout, the former home of the Colorado Open, won by John Elway, Craig and Kevin Stadler in previous years. Enjoy an adult beverage and mountain views after your round.
Vail Golf Club: (Elev.: 8022), 18R, 5277-6740 Yds., Slope: 122-149, 1968, Architect: Ben Krueger. Located just east of the european style Vail Village and the world-famous Vail Ski Area, this 8200 ft. above sea level course weaves its way through aspen groves, lodgepole pines, and with tremendous vista views upon Gore Range which is ablaze in gold aspens during our frequent fall Indian summers.
